This book is perfect for someone who is new to Yoga. The book has five sections. The first discusses basics and defines a lot of "yoga" words. The second section discusses the importance of practicing and having a clear space and mind for your yoga practice. The third section describes and shows illustrations of the proper poses, tells you the name of each pose, describes what benefits the pose offers, and even offers counter-poses if you are not ready for this pose yet. There are also helpful tips for each pose. Once you learn the poses the fourth section gives you lists of sequences to choose from. The fifth section discusses your diet and nutrition and how to be mindful when you eat and when making decisions of what to eat. Section six discusses the importance and types of meditation to practice. Lastly section seven discusses specialty cases like yoga over 60 and yoga while pregnant. There is also an appendix with just illustrations as a reminder and a glossary of terms in case you get confused or need to refresh your memory. A great book for someone thinking about starting a yoga regimen.

Osteoarthritis and Obesity Westlake I really, really like this book, so much that I bought it in print as well as Kindle formats. This is a clear presentation of text and illustrations, respectful of yoga practice and traditions as well as the beginner to yoga. While I am not exactly a beginner, I am a seeker of information and insight and this book offers both in a very accessible way. My family owns a lot of yoga books and videos and we have a yoga teacher in the family and even so, I find myself happily turning to this book as a yoga companion. It is a terrific addition to the yoga library, print and/or video, and I highly recommend it. One more point about the illustrations: I love that they are clear and obvious for the pose, showing the body in a simplistic way that allows one to easily visualize the pose. They are line drawings but not stick drawings and so they are easy to "see." I also like that they are illustrations, not photographs because, as said, they really allow one to see the pose without distraction and with clarity. The book is very well organized, again showing respect and encouragement for the reader/practioner/learner. Well done, Cory Martin! With all my sincere praise for this book, I do hope that Cory Martin will produce a DVD of similar quality; it would no doubt be worth having, too.

An Intro to Yoga Series is a “yoga course” in which you commit to a number of classes over a certain period of time. The teacher builds upon the previous week’s lessons. Students are encourage to practice in-between group classes.
