Alignment is emphasized during the class. Students are taught “how to do” asanas as well as how to use props. The class provides the underlying structure to help a student be able to eventually enter into a Jivamukti open class intelligently and safely. Beginners are encouraged, though not required, to take all four weeks in the same month for continuity. Intermediate and advanced students will also benefit from exploring the alignment essentials presented in these classes.
Regardless of which type of yoga you practice, you don't have to do every pose. If a pose is uncomfortable or you can't hold it as long as the instructor requests, don't do it. Good instructors will understand and encourage you to explore — but not exceed — your personal limits.
