MaryK says 1 March 2018 • 9:41am The Bhakti movement was a development in medieval Hinduism which advocated the concept of a personal God (or "Supreme Personality of Godhead"). The movement was initiated by the Alvars of South India in the 6th to 9th centuries, and it started gaining influence throughout India by the 12th to 15th centuries. Shaiva and Vaishnava bhakti traditions integrated aspects of Yoga Sutras, such as the practical meditative exercises, with devotion. Bhagavata Purana elucidates the practice of a form of yoga called viraha (separation) bhakti. Viraha bhakti emphasizes one pointed concentration on Krishna.

How to: Sit upright comfortably on your heels. Roll your torso forward and bring your forehead to rest on the ground in front of you. Extending your arms forward, lower your chest to your knees as close as you comfortably can. Hold the pose and breathe into your torso. Exhale and release to get deeper into your fold.

I do have a question, and although there is no “stupid” question, this one might seem a bit silly….I am very mindful of my breathing and don’t usually find myself holding my breath but sometimes I feel like I am adjusting the speed of my inhale or exhale in order to match a movement, so my question is how do I better manage that? Is it cool to take an extra moment in a pose to go through another breath cycle (which seems logical)? I am just worried about not “flowing” through a sequence if I do that….
